Krakow day 2

We had a low key day today. Auschwitz was a lot to take in and I’m still processing. I’ll post about it eventually but not yet.

We mostly wandered around and went into a church today. I did say it was low key… But the church is amazing – St. Mary’s Church in the Main Square. The interior is stunning. Way too much but stunning.

The organ loft – we attended a service this evening to hear the organ play. Not as much music as I was hoping but it was some and the organ sounded great.

Some interior pictures – the stained glass is amazing.

Before (above) and after (below) pics of the main altar of the church. The panels opened like a book to reveal the inner diorama. I’ve never seen this before and it was really cool.

And finally some exterior pics. I posted the first one already but I wanted to repost to provide context. The other two pics are of these crazy mini church decorations on top of the buttresses. I almost didn’t notice them because they’re so high up!

We did some shopping (not much buying – yet) and had a couple of super tasty meals. Our lunch spot had a lovely outside seating area (where we ate) but the interior was completely unexpected. It was a basement bar area, and to get into it you had to walk down a very twisty set of stairs. Once you were downstairs, there were several small rooms with vaulted ceilings – part of me would love to go in the evening when it picks up, but most of me wouldn’t want to be that up close and personal with people…

On our way through the square, we found a restaurant with familiar golden arches. Now. I don’t usually eat at McDonald’s but when I do… I prefer one with outdoor seating in a city square 🤣

I’m kicking myself for not taking a pic of my dinner – it was on the menu as a “proper sized knuckle”. No description other than that. Not even what type of meat it was! (pork) Apparently the proper size of a knuckle is approximately the size of a very large cantaloupe. It could’ve fed a family of 4. REALLY annoyed that I didn’t think to take a pic. Ah well. But if you Google, you’ll see pics that are close enough. And yes, it really did weigh about a kilo (2 lbs). Apparently it’s a ham hock? Who knew??

Tomorrow is on to Vienna. I’m looking forward to seeing the city and perhaps having a slice of sachertorte.
